[trigger warning: eating disorders, self-harm, suicide]
i mean, tumblr banning thinspo and not being criticized for it is just further proof that people without eating disorders understand absolutely nothing about them.
thinspo communities are less of a horrible place where young girls get together and encourage each other to harm themselves until they look like supermodels and more of a place where people of all ages and genders can talk to people who understand what they’re going through without the fear of being judged
i’ve seen thinspo communities talk members out of suicide, i’ve seen them convince people to return to therapy
the thinspo community i was once a part of was the reason i ever considered recovery. by myself the thought never once crossed my mind, it wasn’t until i was finally able to talk about what was going on that i finally realized i needed help.
if it wasn’t for my thinspo blog, i still would have been subjecting myself to 72 hour fasts, to 100 calorie daily limits when i did eat, and constantly being on the verge of suicide.
having a safe place to talk about my eating disorder saved my life. that’s all i can say. if you can’t comprehend that, you’re lucky. remember that next time you support further isolating people with eating disorders.
